But back to your dorm: there are simple ways to save money on dorm supplies. Learn how to make five great items that are perfect for college life.

1. DIY Laundry Detergent-

Make your laundry detergent at home and save money. It costs just $1.76 to make, makes 128 loads of laundry and takes 1 tablespoon per load. It’s also better for the environment.

Boil 4 cups of water on high heat. Mix 1 cup 20 Mule Team Borax and 1 cup Arm and Hammer Washing Soda (NOT baking powder!) in a separate bowl. Mix all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Mix the Fels Naptha into a bowl. Add the shavings to boiling water and stir constantly. Keep the heat at medium and stir constantly until the Fels Naptha has dissolved. This should not take more than 15 minutes. Keep the heat at a low enough level to ensure that it doesn’t boil over. Once the mixture has dissolved, take the pot off the heat and add the borax and washing powder. Pour the mixture into mason containers for storage. Invert the jars for a few hours to allow it to settle in layers. Blend the ingredients in a blender until it becomes light and fluffy. Place back in the mason jars and keep until you need it!

2. Make Your Own Tooth Paste

Make your own toothpaste and save 60% on store-brand toothpaste.

Mix 2 tablespoons water and 2 tablespoons bentonite in a bowl. Then, use a spoon to mix the mixture. You can also add 4 drops of tea tree oil and 5 drops liquid stevia. 10 drops peppermint oil are also added. Add a little salt to taste. To adjust the texture and taste, add more stevia, water, or peppermint oil. The flavors will become more blended over time. Wait 48 hours before making any significant adjustments. Keep the mixture in a sealed glass jar. Other flavors can be made with different oils such as lemon or spearmint.

3. DIY Moisturizing and pH Balanced Shampoo-

It’s easy and good for your hair. You will have silkier and softer hair if you ditch the chemicals found in store-bought products.

Mix 1 can of full fat coconut milk with 2 tablespoons liquid raw honey, 1 tablespoon castor oil and 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar. Add 1 teaspoon essential oil (lavender or rosemary, peppermint, or tea tree) to the mixture and stir well. All you need to do is shake your hair before each use. If your hair is oily or needs to be adjusted to natural methods, you can try using equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water to make it shine. In no time, your hair will look amazing!

4. Make Your Own Reusable Dryer Sheets-

These dryer sheets can save you time and money. They also protect your skin from harsh chemicals.

For large or extra-large shirts, cut an old shirt in large pieces. You will need 16 strips. Combine 3/4 cup white vinegar, 1/4 cup water, and a few drops your favorite essential oil (I recommend lemon or orange). in a mason jar. Fill the mason jar with strips of your old shirt. Close the jar and shake it well. It is okay if the mixture does not immediately wet all of the strips. The mixture will eventually even out inside the jar. Once the mixture has completely dampened all the cloths with the mixture, you’re ready to go. You should use one strip for each load of laundry. Once you are done, put it away. It’s time for you to make more once the jar is full.

5. DIY Room Spray-

You can make your room smell fresher by spraying it with homemade room spray if you notice a strange odor in your room.

Fill a few glass spray bottles with distilled water. You can add 25-30 drops of essential oils to the water. This will allow you to mix scents according your preferences. Cap the bottle and shake it well. Add a few dried flowers to the bottle for a beautiful touch.
